Summer is officially here! It’s time to (responsibly) soak up the sun and have as much fun as possible in the great outdoors. Not just because there is so much fun to be had, but because you’re probably deficient in Vitamin D and that’s a big problem! Almost as big of a problem as being deficient in fun..
The best way to get Vitamin D is free. Get outdoors and soak it up! 10-15 minutes per day, without sunscreen. Use common sense: if you are super fair and fluorescent (like me) limit your exposure and don’t burn. If you’ve got dark skin, you’ll need more sunlight to make vitamin D.
If you’ve never had your Vitamin D level tested, consider it high time you did. Studies show the majority of us are lacking in this essential vitamin, putting us at a greater risk of cancer and hearth disease. A deficiency leads to a weakened immune system, poor bone health, even fertility problems!
All this fun in the great outdoors is sure to work up an appetite. Here’s a recipe for a sweet summertime snack, packed with protein and antioxidants to keep the party going..
Mango Goji Suntini
Ingredients:
1 ataulfo mango, peeled and cubed
1 handful dried goji berries
3 Tbsp full fat unsweetened greek yogurt
About 1 cup cashew or almond milk
1 Tbsp shredded coconut
Procedure:
1. Put it all in a blender.
2. Blend until it looks like liquid sunshine.
3. Pour into your favourite fancy glass.
4. Garnish with a few goji berries and shredded coconut.
