I’ll let you in on a little secret: I have a real fondness for (read: obsession with) all things Italian. 🇮🇹 It all started when I studied fine art in Italy before my career path led me into healthcare. 👩‍🎨🎨 🖼 I was taken by the food, the fashion, the people and the sheer abundance of beauty waiting around every corner. When I’m not at @bewellcollingwood helping people with gut problems (it’s my thing 💩) you can find me biking, paddling and generally galavanting around Collingwood visiting farmers’ markets, preparing delicious meals, planning my next sun drenched adventure, and feeling pretty darn good most of the time! After struggling with stress-related health problems for most of my adult life I’ve found a sustainable sweet spot where I feel better than ever. I don’t say this to brag but to let you in on my SMART secrets: 1. S is for Sunshine ☀️ It’s not just for vitamin D. Time outdoors / in nature is associated with better stress management, brain function and immunity. Vit D is important for mood and whole body health and the sun serves it up for free. Enjoy it safely. 2. M is for Movement 💃🏻 Sitting is the new smoking. Our lives are increasingly sedentary. It’s a huge health risk to not find something you love that moves you and let it move you regularly! Walk. Bike. Swim. Dance badly. Whatever. Just don’t sit for 16 hours a day. 3. A is for Adventure ⛵️ Having something to look forward to gives you a surge of dopamine, a brain chemical that has a lot of important functions in your body including pleasure and motivation. Personally I’ve found that putting something fun and exciting on my calendar keeps me motivated to move forward through stressful times, whether it’s something small like knowing I’m paddling this weekend (wahoo) or something big like knowing I’m getting on a plane to Puglia next month (pinch me). . 4. R is for Real food 🥬 You are what you eat. Read that again. Do you want to feel like processed garbage rotting in a dumpster or like a vibrant garden with butterflies frolicking through your foliage? You don’t have to be uber strict, restrictive or socially isolated by your food choices - nor does the way you eat need a label to be healthy - just eat real, healthy, wholesome food most of the time. Mostly plants. Lots of veggies. Grains that are whole vs. processed. Good fats. Seafood. Higher welfare meat and poultry. 5. T is for Time 🥰 To slow down, unplug, rest, sleep, recharge, reconnect, heal. To identify and prioritize your needs. To do you.
